Default II: vehicle

April 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Penetrating Insight

Default vehicle for guys that want to get laid but don’t: BMW 3-series with obsessively clean interior. Close runners up: Acura, various models, especially the RSX with obsessively clean interior, and the Lexus IS 300, all interiors.Newsflash, losers: owning a BMW 3-series or an Acura RSX won’t magically get you laid. The same goes for [...]

Default I: hobby

April 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Penetrating Insight

Default hobby for gainfully employed guys who are not in the habit of doing something even remotely interesting: photography.
If you want to take up photography, here’s how. First, buy a camera. Then take a bunch of pictures. Select the best pictures and put them online. Boom, now you’re a photographer. To become a better [...]

Blame It On The Ear Infection

April 25th, 2008 · No Comments · Personal

My hearing still isn’t back to normal.
Yesterday during class someone said, “I’m in touch with her, and told her it wasn’t good.”
But I heard, “I had sex with her, and told her it wasn’t good.”
I thought to myself, Man, that’s pretty harsh.
Later, one of my classmates helped me to clarify the statement.
Maybe it’s not just [...]

A Lingering Embrace

April 24th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Poetry

He watches her walk into his arms.
The soft orange glow. The rising sun.
A city morning, just begun.
Then slowly away, she walks far.
In a white room where she is not,
he packs his suitcase, looking down,
foreign noise covering his heart’s sound,
as the blanket muffles his cough
when he leans backwards in his seat,
on business class, going home.
Plane nearly [...]

Maybe I Really Am Home

April 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Personal

Today I walked downtown to get some coffee. Then I sat in the coffee shop for quite a while, working on a poem. I felt so happy working on a sixteen line quatrain that hardly anyone will read. When I’m downtown, working on my writing, I feel the most happy I’ve ever felt in San [...]

Home

Finally I can sleep.
After I got back to the U.S. I went to the doctor.
It turns out I have, among other things, a severe ear infection. I’m on antibiotics. All the fluid in my ear makes me drowsy, dizzy, and feel like I’m dreaming.
I also I  have an eye infection, but it has mostly gone [...]

Ah, those were the days. One week ago I was in Belgium worrying nothing, having a great time, and looking forward to reunions.
Right now I’m sitting in my uncle’s freezing study. My lungs have that dry, yet need to cough feeling. I’m trying to relax. I’m full of at least five over-the-counter medications, some of [...]

Wicked

I’m sitting here with my grandmother who just told me some things I didn’t know.
My grandma told me that her mother, whose name was Maggie McQuaid, was Irish. So first of all my grandma is half Irish, which means I’m one eighth Irish, which I didn’t know. I thought my grandma was all English.
Maggie McQuaid [...]

Outside Looking In

April 7th, 2008 · No Comments · Travel

Whenever I land in England, there is always a small part of me that feels like I’m home. Looking over the rolling hills when the plane is descending, it’s a primordial feeling.
But then when I go into pubs and restaurants, or even with my family, I feel like an outsider. I feel like people look [...]

Delirium

April 7th, 2008 · No Comments · Travel

In three days I’ve slept a total of nine hours.
I hear a clock chime off in the distance. It’s not the Westminster chimes though. Something else. From my hotel room window I can see the front of the Bruxelles Center train station. A bunch of people walk quickly in front of it, busy with [...]
