I’m sitting here with my grandmother who just told me some things I didn’t know.
My grandma told me that her mother, whose name was Maggie McQuaid, was Irish. So first of all my grandma is half Irish, which means I’m one eighth Irish, which I didn’t know. I thought my grandma was all English.
Maggie McQuaid had Irish blood but she lived in England. Her and her parents immigrated to England when she was a young child. At some point Maggie McQuaid ended up living with her mother and a wicked step-dad, in a house that belonged to her mother. It’s unclear what happened to her father.
One night Maggie’s step-dad got into an argument with Maggie’s mother, and killed her. The step-dad then took over the house. He threw Maggie and her brother Owen out, both of whom were under the age of 18.
At age 39 Maggie Mquaid, my great grandmother, died of pneumonia. She was survived by nine children, one of which was my Grandmother, Elsie.
